Distributed Continual Planning for Unmanned Ground Vehicle Teams
نویسنده
چکیده
tance of distributed continual planning concepts; coordinating teams of unmanned ground vehicles in dynamic environments is an example of such a domain. In this article, I illustrate the ideas in, and promises of, distributed continual planning by showing how acquiring and distributing operator intent among multiple semiautonomous vehicles supports ongoing, cooperative mission elaboration and revision.

Introduction We are interested in extending the existing Cooperative Intelligent Real-Time Control Architecture (CIRCA) for real-time planning and control (Musliner, Durfee, & Shin 1993; 1995) into distributed applications such as the control of multiple unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). In such coarse-grain distributed applications, we envision multiple autonomous agents, each controlled by a C...
متن کاملUnmanned Aerial and Ground Vehicle Teams: Recent Work and Open Problems
Unmanned aerial and ground vehicle teams present a majoropportunity for expanded operation over individual autonomous vehicles alone. The different perspectives available for sensors, the different operating ranges and payload capabilities, and the ability to observe a target environment from all angles at once all add up to significant improvements in ability to search for and track targets, t...
متن کاملAsynchronous Decentralized Algorithm for Space-Time Cooperative Pathfinding
Cooperative pathfinding is a multi-agent path planning problem where a group of vehicles searches for a corresponding set of non-conflicting space-time trajectories. Many of the practical methods for centralized solving of cooperative pathfinding problems are based on the prioritized planning strategy. However, in some domains (e.g., multi-robot teams of unmanned aerial vehicles, autonomous und...
متن کاملAn Agent-based Heterogeneous UAV Simulator Design
To facilitate the evaluation of alternative mission planning models for teams of Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAVs), a multi-agent simulation system was designed and developed. The system, referred to as Ether, is designed to be more generally applicable to a wide variety of agent-oriented systems. The simulator design has the flexibility to support a wide variety of mission planning models, yet prov...
متن کاملMission Planning and Monitoring for Heterogeneous Unmanned Vehicle Teams: A Human-Centered Perspective
Future unmanned systems in the military will be highly heterogeneous in nature, with vehicles from multiple domains—aerial, underwater, and land—working in collaborative teams to complete a variety of missions. The complexity of supervising these teams will be enormous and will rely on human creativity, judgment, and experience. Therefore, the design and development of mission planning and moni...
